Haiti Earthquake
Like many others we at Eglinton have been shocked by the scenes of devastation and suffering in Haiti. To support the relief effort we have decided to donate a ShelterBox. We became aware of the ShelterBox charity through Willie Maltman's involvement with Rotary and we are impressed by the work of the charity in providing emergency shelter quickly to those who are most in need.
A ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and essential supplies for 10 people. Each box contains a sturdy tent that provides warmth and protection, a stove, pans, bowls, mugs and water storage containers.
There is also a toolkit to support self sufficiency. The ShelterBox also contains a children's pack containing drawing books, crayons and pens.
For children who have lost most, if not all, their possessions, these small gifts are treasured.
We admired the fireman who appeared on TV who had taken unpaid leave to deliver a supply of ShelterBoxes and assist in the relief work and we thought he and the many other volunteers in Haiti should be supported in their efforts.
